This Pre Owned Martin 1963 D-21 with Spruce top, Brazilian Rosewood back and sides is in very good condition. It has all the vintage mojo you would want from an old Martin with genuine play wear and tear throughout. This is a fantastic example with plenty of tight low end reponse without compromising on the top end sparkle and it projects very well. Featuring traditional belly down bridge, tortoiseshell pickguard and binding.
The Spruce top has aged nicely and picked up the usual play wear in areas you would expect such as around the sound hole. There are lots of small signs of use on the body with dinks, dents and surface scratches but certainly nothing out of the ordinary for an instrument of this age. The neck feels lovely in the hands and is in excellent condition.
As you would expect on a guitar of this age, there has been work done to ensure it continues to be in good playing order. We are aware of a repair done prior to the previous owner where a hairline crack at the base of the headstock has been dowelled. The repair has been done to a very high standard and is hard to notice. A historic neck reset ensures very good playability.
It has been re-fretted at some point and there is wear, mostly on the treble strings in the normal areas but still plenty of life in them yet. The original machine heads have been replaced for Waverly open gear with wooden finish that pairs well with the headstock. It has a K & K passive transducer pickup with a good output level.
Includes a non original hard case along with written valuation done by No. Tom guitars when it was previously sold.
We've given it a full healthcheck in our workshop and it's now ready to find a new home. Currently fitted with D'Addario XS 12-53's and plays with a nice low action (2.4mm at 12th fret). We are excited to find this charming dreadnought a new home for many more years of playing.
